Got a question that wasn’t answered elsewhere? Or maybe you just want to chat about how this whole crazy floating golf thing works. Either way, we’d love to hear from you. Below are answers to some frequent questions we get. If you don’t see yours, drop us a line!
Frequently Asked Questions
Are you insured and licensed to operate this game? How do I know it’s legit?
Absolutely – we take the legalities seriously. Chip 2 Win carries full liability insurance to cover any injury or property damage, though we’ve never had to use it. We also secure hole-in-one prize insurance for the $10K payout (so the prize is underwritten and guaranteed). As for licenses, we work with local authorities (parks departments, city officials) to get event permits whenever we set up in public spaces. All our staff are trained in safety, and our company is an LLC in good standing. In short, we’ve done our homework and checked all the boxes. If you need proof of insurance or permits for your venue, we’re happy to provide documentation during the booking process.
What if someone hits a really bad shot – like way offline? Could it hurt someone or something?
We design the layout to minimize any risk. Typically, we position the tee and floating green so that even a shank will land in water or a very safe zone. If there are people or property within range in an unsafe direction, we’ll either adjust the angle or put that area off-limits during shots. Safety nets and cones or a staff spotter might be used if needed. We also only use mid-distance clubs (usually an 8-iron to pitching wedge) for these shots – nobody is hitting a driver as hard as they can, so the ball speed and range are controlled. In a worst-case scenario, our liability insurance has us covered. But to be honest, the biggest “hazard” we’ve observed is a golfer slipping on a tee (and we even place anti-slip mats to prevent that). We have a 100% safety record so far, and we plan to keep it that way.
How much space do you need, and what are the site requirements?
We can adapt to different-sized venues, but here’s a basic guide: For the floating green, we prefer at least ~50 yards of open water (a small pond or better). The shot length we set up can vary, but typically we do 65-150 yard shots depending on skill level and space – we’ll adjust to what’s safe at your site. On land, we need an area roughly 10 by 10 feet for our tee-off mat and a pop-up tent (10’x10’). A flat area is best so golfers have good footing. Parking access close to the water is also helpful for unloading our equipment (we have trailers). If you’re unsure your site works, send us a photo or address – we’re happy to evaluate it. We’ve set up in everything from swimming pools to large lakes!
How do payments and pricing work for participants?
We offer two main models, depending on your goals:
Corporate / Private Events: The host pays a flat booking fee, and participants enjoy the contest for free as part of the event.
Charity Tournaments: Participants can pay per shot (e.g., $1-5 each). Proceeds are shared with the charity, or go entirely to the charity if the event covers a small base fee. This turns Chip 2 Win into a fundraiser as well as entertainment.
For public or pop-up events, we may also charge per bucket of balls (e.g., $10 for 5 shots, $20 for 10 shots), using our mobile POS. When partnering with a venue, we can share a portion of those revenues.
Either way, we’ll decide the best approach with you ahead of time so it’s a win-win for everyone.
Walk me through what setup looks like on event day?
Sure! Here’s a quick rundown: We arrive with our truck and trailer at the venue about 2 hours early. Our team scouts the shoreline to pick the best tee area and target alignment. We unload the floating green (it’s modular and on wheels) and gently roll it to the water’s edge. Using our dolly with turf-friendly tires, we launch the floating green into the water – kind of like a boat launch. (Don’t worry, it’s designed for this and doesn’t hurt the ground or splash much.) We guide the floating green to the desired spot on the water (usually with a rope or small electric motor), then set our anchors so it stays in place. Meanwhile, another part of our team is setting up the driving mats, the tent, table, our tracking/score system, and any signage or banners. We test the distance with a rangefinder and might drop a floating marker buoy as an aim guide. We also set out the clubs (we bring a variety of irons) and balls on the tee. Once everything is double-checked, we’re ready to roll! During the event, our staff will collect balls that land near shore or net them from the water intermittently to keep things tidy. After the event, we reverse the process: reel in the floating green, load it up, pack all gear, and make sure the site is clean. Give us about an hour, and it’ll be like we were never there.
Okay, what if someone wins the $10,000? Is there a catch?
No catch – it’s the real deal. If someone hits a hole-in-one during our challenge under the contest rules, they win $10,000. We make them a champion on the spot, probably take a million photos, and we handle the payout process after (usually via a quick claim through our insurer, which pays the winner in a lump sum or cashier’s check). We do have some sensible rules: for example, the shot usually has to be at least a certain distance (typically 100+ yards for the full $10K). We use sensors in the cups and record every shot for verification. We also limit it to one winner per event (if somehow two people aced, the first would get it – or we’d split into two prizes – but the odds of one ace are low enough!). We explain all these rules upfront to participants so it’s transparent. But yes, every time you swing, it could be the magic shot. That thrill is what it’s all about! And yes, we have had winners – it does happen. In fact, similar challenges have paid out multiple $10K prizes and still run– it’s rare but oh-so-sweet when it happens.
